SIOUX CITY -- Pamela G. Sweeney, 49, of Sioux City passed away Thursday, March 15, 2012 at a Sioux City hospital, after a 9-month courageous battle with cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad and Monsignor Roger Augustine presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Condolences may be posted online at www.meyerbroschapels.com.

Pam was born April 13, 1962 in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Dean and Barbara (Martinson) Minter. Due to her father's job, she lived in several different cities in the U.S. and for a few years in India before her family settled in Sioux City. She graduated from North High School in 1980 and then pursued her education at the University of Iowa. She graduated with a degree in psychology and a minor in business.

On May 18, 1985, she married Thomas J. Sweeney in Sioux City. Together they raised four daughters, Kayla, Meaghan, Allie and Brenna. Pam was a devoted wife and mother who was very social and made friends easily. She loved being outdoors, whether it was reading a book on her porch or going on walks. She enjoyed spending time by the water especially the time she spent at Rainy Lake in International Falls, Minn.

Anyone who knew Pam would know that she was always attending her children's activities or was volunteering at their school. (She would take any activity and make it something special). She always looked forward to book club, going to coffee or lunch with her friends, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Tom; four daughters, Kayla of Sioux City, Meaghan of Omaha, Allie and Brenna, both at home; her father, Dean Minter and his wife; a sister, Paula Lazarus and her husband Dave of Murrieta, Calif.; two brothers, Corey Minter and his wife Debbie of Sacramento, Calif., and Eric Minter of Bozeman, Mont.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara Minter, and her father-in-law, Bob Sweeney.

Pallbearers will be Julie Baughman, Shelly Bennett, Laura Glover, Jeanne Hindman, Jackie Mitchell, Michelle Puetz, Sara Tomscha and Sue Vondrak. Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy McCarthy and Barb McCuddin.

Memorials can be directed to the Oncology Unit, Mercy Medical Center.
