Dawn Mills (Barkley)

SIOUX CITY | Dawn Marie Barkley, 53, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at a Sioux City hospital, surrounded by her family after a lengthy battle with lung cancer.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sioux City. The Rev. David Hemann will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel. Dawn was born July 22, 1962, in Moorhead, Minn. She was the daughter of Max and Betty (Oakleaf) Mills.

Dawn graduated from North High School and then married Larry Barkley on April 4, 1981. She managed Taco Johns for 17 years until her twins were born and then was a stay-at-home mom until the kids were in school and she worked as a teacher’s aide.

Dawn was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. She loved being a mom and attending her children’s activities.

Survivors include her four children, Jessica Barkley, Jake Barkley, Megan Barkley, all of Sioux City, and Mack Barkley of Hinton, Iowa; her sister, Becky Roberge of Fargo, N.D.; two brothers, Glen Mills (Sherry) of Battle Lake, Minn., and Joe Mills (Teri) of Sioux City; and a grandson, Mason White.

Dawn was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Nicholas Barkley, who died in 2000; and her sister, Carolyn Simonsen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
